The speaker discusses the negative impact of excessive screen time, particularly watching TikTok videos and shorts, on literacy scores and attention spans among children in America. They highlight how the constant stimulation without pauses may affect our minds and even our blinking patterns. The lack of breaks in digital content consumption is suggested as a possible reason for dry eyes when staring at screens.
Do you know that the literacy scores in America with our kids are going down? Because all they do is watch TikTok videos and shorts and the attention span is gone. And it's horrible, and it's screwing up our minds. And yes, kids are watching TikTok, and they're watching the shorts and everything else on here. Where the pauses are taken out, it's messing with your mind. Did you know that when people are talking to you and they hit a pause and maybe stop and move on to the next thought, do you know that you automatically blink? Did you know that? Did you know there's no time to blink when somebody keeps talking and they get to another thing and they keep on moving? I wonder if that's why your eyes dry out when you're at a computer. Because if you're watching a movie or something, there's no pauses. So I wonder if you don't blink so your eyes dry out. I'm sure that's part of it.
